In a friendly and forward-looking engagement, the Borno State AGILE Project team met with the management of the Ekiti State Ministry of Education on Monday, ahead of the regional boys’ basketball qualifier match scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
The match, to be played in Ado-Ekiti, will see Borno State’s basketball team face the reigning champions from Ekiti—All Souls Grammar School, who claimed gold in both the male and female categories during the intra-school tournaments held under the 2025 AGILE GAMES.
Speaking during the courtesy visit, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Michael Omolayo, who represented the Honorable Commissioner for Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Bimpe Aderiye, mni, welcomed the Borno team warmly. He assured them of the state’s hospitality and peaceful environment, urging them to explore the cultural richness of Ekiti during their stay.
Mr. Omolayo praised the AGILE Games for aligning with national youth-building efforts such as the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), stating:
“The 2025 AGILE Games are more than competitions. They foster national integration, cultural exchange, and lasting friendships among the youth.”
In response, Borno’s team spokesman, Mr. Abdulganiyu Mustapha, expressed appreciation for the warm reception his team has received since arriving in Ekiti on Sunday.
“We have been treated with kindness and respect, and we are grateful. Whether we win or lose, we will leave with beautiful memories and friendships,” he said.
As part of their cultural immersion, the visiting Borno team was taken to the famous Ikogosi Warm Springs, one of Ekiti State’s renowned tourist destinations, giving them a taste of the state’s natural beauty and hospitality.
The upcoming match promises to be a thrilling contest of talent, sportsmanship, and inter-state unity—one of the many highlights of the 2025 AGILE Games.
