The Ekiti State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) team has received high praise for its effective implementation of Safe Space sessions in secondary schools. The commendation came during a one-week monitoring visit by Mrs. Grace Jackson, Guidance and Counselor from the National Project Coordinating Unit (NPCU) of AGILE, and Mrs. Okolo, Director of Quality Assurance at the Federal Ministry of Education.
Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Jackson applauded the collaborative efforts of the Ekiti AGILE team in ensuring the smooth and impactful rollout of the program. “The team’s dedication to creating a nurturing environment for students and equipping them with life skills is exemplary. Their joint efforts have been pivotal to the success of this initiative,” she said.
Mrs. Okolo emphasized that the monitoring exercise aimed to assess whether learning environments in the state align with the seven key aspects of quality education: learning environment, care and guidance, safety, effective teaching, curriculum relevance, student well-being, and community engagement.
“Ekiti has excelled in the care, guidance, and safety aspects of learning,” Mrs. Okolo noted. “Students interviewed during the visit testified to feeling supported and safe, which is critical for fostering academic and personal growth.”
The Project Coordinator, Mrs. Yewande Adesua, expressed her gratitude for the recognition and reiterated the team’s commitment to the program’s objectives. “This acknowledgment inspires us to do more. Our focus remains on ensuring that every school under this initiative becomes a model of holistic education, where students feel safe, guided, and empowered to reach their potential. Collaboration has been our strength, and we will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to sustain this momentum,” she said.
The Safe Space initiative, a cornerstone of the AGILE project, equips students with life skills, promotes gender equality, and fosters emotional well-being, positioning Ekiti State as a leader in innovative educational reforms.
