No fewer than 10 secondary schools in Ekiti State have received N916 million grant from the World Bank through its Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment. Ekiti State governor’s wife Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, distributing the cheques to the benefitting schools, said the grant was meant for the renovation of dilapidated buildings. She noted that the initiative was in line with Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s vision of providing a more conducive learning atmosphere for students and transforming the educational landscape.
Mrs. Oyebanji, who lauded World Bank for its interventionist programmes in the state, said under the AGILE projects, teachers had been equipped with digital skills to improve their productivity. She advised stakeholders to ensure sustainability of the programme and promised continued support for the success of the project. Urging the management of the 10 schools to ensure judicious use of the grant, Mrs. Oyebanji enjoined the contractors that would handle the projects ensure quality job delivery. The AGILE Project Coordinator in Ekiti State, Mrs. Yewande Adesua, said the project was part of World Bank initiative to improve secondary school education opportunities for the girl-child.
